• Unshaped Refractory Materials

Unshaped refractory materials are defined as” mixtures consisting of aggregates, additives, and binders, prepared for direct use in the state of delivery or after adding suited liquids”. In contrast to refractory bricks, they are without specific shape and are in majority placed in larger sections behind molds and templates forming a monolithic lining. Gunning installations without the requirement for a mold are increasing due to ease of application and higher installation speed.

Tabular Alumina for shaped and unshaped refractory

Information
Tabular alumina is a re-crystalline sintered Alpha alumina with high density. It consists of large (50 – 200 µm), flat, table shaped corundum crystals.
Production process: Tabular alumina is a re-crystalline sintered Alpha alumina with high density. It consists of large (50 – 200 µm), flat, table shaped corundum crystals. Feedstock is calcined Alumina which is ground to fine powder and palletized to balls with a diameter of abt. 25 mm. These balls are sintered (fired) at 1750°C in modern shaft kilns and following crushed, milled and sieved to standard fractions/sizes.
Packing: Bulk
Big bags
Bags
Applications: Tabular Alumina is used in the refractory industry. Application is shaped and unshaped products, like bricks or specially shaped products e.g. sliding gates, porous plugs for steel ladles and shaped products for the glass industry. Furthermore kiln furniture like ceramic wheels are produced for the application in ceramic kilns. Another application of the Tabular balls is the filtering in Aluminium metal production.
